What is dry needling?
“Dry needling” is a term used for a type of acupuncture that is currently in vogue among non-acupuncturists. Known as ashi needling in acupuncture theory, this type of acupuncture focuses on active trigger points in myofascial tissue. The goal of this therapy is to reduce pain by de-activating trigger points through invoking a “twitch response”. Although rather intense, this type of treatment is a standard approach used by many acupuncturists to reduce pain and dysfunction in soft tissue.
Being a technique that has been done for thousands of years in Traditional Chinese Medicine, acupuncturists are the most qualified and best trained practitioners and to administer “dry needling”.
